Brief Company Profile | AIR INDIA ON THE UPSWING – LARGER FLEET AND EXPANDED NETWORK
Air India is India’s finest flying Ambassador. The urge to excel and the enthusiasm, which characterized Air India’s first flight, way back on October 15, 1932, is quintessential even today – thanks to Air Indians who have kept alive the tradition of flying high. The recent merger of Air India and India, the country’s leader in the domestic sector, has helped the airline to emerge as a major force in the airline industry. The re-branding exercise is currently underway and passengers are getting to see the unified face of the new invigorated Air India. The merged entity, which presently has a fleet of 147 aircraft, offers passengers seamless travel across domestic and international routes.
Air India, which has been inducting new aircraft at an average pace of two/three aircraft a month since July 2007, will continue to induct new aircraft in the current fiscal, notwithstanding the global slump in air travel during the recent past. Air India, with over 60 years of experience in operating international flights, is confident that the slump will be short-lived and traffic to/from India will once again witness an uptrend considering improved business environment and the enormous potential that India offers as a tourist destination.
With a fleet of 147 aircraft, including 45 aircraft inducted in the past 18 months, Air India has been gradually expanding its network to cover new destinations in India and abroad. After the induction of 30 new aircraft between now and March 2010, a total of 75 aircraft would have joined the fleet out of the order placed on Boeing and Airbus in 2005 for 111 aircraft, thus drastically bringing down the average age of the fleet. The induction will continue till 2012.
Air India now offers both speed and comfort through its daily non-stop services between Mumbai/Delhi- New York and back with the induction of the state-of-the-art B777-200LR aircraft with fully flat beds in Executive and First Class, more leg room in economy class. Finest wines and delectable international cuisine. Personal TV and Laptop power inserts on every seat. Air India will soon be launching non-stop daily San Francisco flights later this year.
Come, try the new Air India.
