The Great Indian Travel Bazaar 2008, April 21-23, 2008, Jaipur, India

As many as 163 foreign tour operators and travel writers from 42 countries across the world assembled in Jaipur for the Great Indian Travel Bazaar '08 (GITB '08) for three days (April 21-23, 2008) to take a pie of the booming Indian travel market with around 3000 structured, formal and informal B2B meetings fructified.

The first-ever pan-India travel mart being organized by FICCI, Union Ministry of Tourism, Department of Tourism, Government of Rajasthan had focused exclusively on inbound tourism with structured Business-to-Business meetings between foreign buyers and sellers of the Indian tourism product.

The GITB '08 was inaugurated by Smt. Vasundhara Raje, Hon'ble Chief Minister of Rajasthan. Smt. Ambika Soni, Hon'ble Union Minister for Tourism and Culture, was the Chief Guest.

Around 275 booths at the exhibition venue of GITB '08 showcased the diverse tourism products of India. The state governments had evinced keen interest in the travel mart with West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Tripura, Jharkhand, Gujarat, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Uttaranchal, Haryana, Goa, Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim and Uttar Pradesh joining the mart.

The business sessions addressed strategic policy issues with decision makers and new products being promoted by the various state governments. GITB '08 was instrumental in putting various destinations of India in the itineraries of the foreign buyers and paved the way to witness incremental group, charter, series and FIT movements to India.

Social networking events, delightful Indian cuisine, craft bazaar, vibrant cultural programmes, Horse Polo match and hosted FAM tours for the foreign buyers added colors to GITB '08.
